Medium
Painting - Oil On Canvas
Description
Careful examination of the details embedded in this portrait reveals Napoleon as a politically powerful icon. He is placed in the center of a vertical canvas dressed in his uniform as a colonel of the Foot Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard. His pose, the slightly pushes back shoulders and an oculus in his hand, contrasts to the formality of his costume.
In addition, his youthful look depicted here, and intense expression was designed to show that Napoleon was an imposing leader capable of composing the Napoleonic Code. Other decorative details are the heraldic bees and the fleurs de lys that are symbols of French absolutism and imply Napoleon's power as a ruler.
He was also known as Napoleon I, he was a French military leader and emperor who conquered much of Europe in the early 19th century. Born on the island of Corsica, Napoleon rapidly rose through the ranks of the military during the French Revolution 1789-1799.
