The Desert of Queen Hatshepsut Painting by Tiago Azevedo This Queen herself created an amazingly realistic and almost hypnotizing effect, pulling the viewer into the world of Queen Hatshepsut. Her lovely printed vest, a veritable peacock's plume in this incredibly powerful and lushly painted composition. The Egyptian Queen has powerful blue eyes, strikingly wistful visage that has become indelibly fixed in all her subject's minds. Queen Hatshepsut reigned over Egypt for more than 20 years. She served as queen alongside her husband, Thutmose II, but after his death, she claimed the role of pharaoh while acting as regent to her step-son, Thutmose III. She reigned peaceably, building temples and monuments, resulting in the flourishing of Egypt. After her death, Thutmose III erased her inscriptions and tried to eradicate her memory. Hatshepsut had been well trained in her duties as the daughter of the pharaoh. During her father's reign, she held the powerful office of God's Wife. She had taken a strong role as queen to her husband and was well experienced in the administration of her kingdom by the time she became pharaoh.
